LAS VEGAS -
2007 UNLV Men's Soccer Schedule
The UNLV men's soccer team, under second-year head coach Mario Sanchez, will play ten home games and host two in-season tournaments in their 2007 schedule, released on Wednesday. The schedule is highlighted by back-to-back games against New Mexico, the three-time Mountain Pacific Sports Federation champions.
"We are looking forward to playing with teams from outside of our region early on," noted Sanchez about the upcoming schedule. "With some great home games against teams from our region, our schedule this year will definitely help us prepare for conference. We feel that with a solid core of returning players and an exciting group of new players, this schedule will have us ready to compete for the MPSF Conference championship."
The Rebels open the season on the road for the third straight year, this time in Cincinnati, Ohio, where they will take on Pittsburgh (Aug. 31) and host Xavier (Sept. 2) in the Marriott Kingsgate Xavier Challenge. Following that will be the first-ever trip to Florida in program history, as UNLV will play Florida Golf Coast on Sept. 7 and Florida Atlantic on Sept. 9.
The next two weekends will see the Rebels host back-to-back tournaments, beginning on Sept. 14 with the UNLV adidas Invitational, featuring Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge and Cleveland State. The next weekend will be the UNLV Rebel Classic, with Drake, Missouri State and San Diego State.
UNLV ends the non-conference slate against Cal State Bakersfield, and then opens up MPSF conference play with two straight home games, beginning on Oct. 5 against Air Force.
The MPSF schedule will feature home-and-away series for the six teams in the league for the third straight season. New Mexico comes to Las Vegas on Nov. 3, following the first meeting between the two schools in Albuquerque on Oct. 20. UNLV closes out the regular season on Nov. 18, at Air Force.
