Mabanta Gets Northern Exposure

July 10, 2002

DUNCAN, British Columbia - UNLV golfer Tina Mabanta defeated Jill Srigley in a sudden-death playoff to win the British Columbia Amateur Championship at Cowichan Golf and Country Club.

Mabanta held a solid four-stroke lead over Kirby Dreher and was five shots better than Srigley heading into the final round of the 54-hole championship. But the Vancouver native slipped, following rounds of 74 and 73 with a six-over 78. Dreher did not improve, but Srigley took advantage of Mabanta's mishap, firing 73 to force the playoff.

The victory caps an impressive summer for Mabanta, who will return to UNLV in August for her sophomore season.
