Record Run In Classroom
The 2008 Mountain West Conference Tournament Champion UNLV women's tennis team set a program-record in the classroom as six of its players earned a spot on the 2008 Academic All-MWC Team, which was released Thursday. [ + ] Despite playing the final match of the night at the NCAA Championships, the best doubles team ever to suit up for the UNLV women's program was quickly ousted during the tournament's first round on Thursday at the Case Tennis Center. [ + ] Already considered one of the best players in school history, UNLV women's senior tennis star Elena Gantcheva can now add an academic honor to her illustrious resume. While awaiting her first-round match at the NCAA Doubles Championship in Tulsa, Okla., Gantcheva on Thursday was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Women's At-large Second Team as selected by the nation's sports information directors. [ + ] UNLV tennis star Elena Gantcheva has played her final singles match in a Lady Rebel uniform. The 36th-ranked former All-American won the first set over third-seeded Hilary Barte on Wednesday but then saw Stanford's top player storm back for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory at the NCAA Division I Singles Championship at Tulsa's Case Tennis Center. [ + ] UNLV tennis star Elena Gantcheva will look to earn her first career victory at the NCAA Division I Singles Championship on Wednesday and will have to do it by facing the tournament's third seed as the main draws were announced on Tuesday. [ + ] Already considered the best doubles team ever to suit up at UNLV, Elena Gantcheva and Kristina Nedeltcheva learned Monday that they will become the first duo in school history to play together in more than one NCAA doubles tournament.
